Who Are We – The Finnish Tourist Bloggers

Hello again, dear readers! We hope you enjoyed reading our first post concerning the history of Finland and the fun facts about the country (if you haven’t, waste no more time and do it!).

We thought you might want to know who we are and why we decided to create this blog dedicated to exploring the gorgeous Finland. This is why we will use this space to tell you our story and to show you why we are so passionate about this Nordic country.

Finnish Love

Let us start by saying that we are not actually Finnish, but British. As a couple that loves travelling and making new experiences, we have been to most European countries since the start of our relationship. We finally decided to visit Finland five years ago and it’s needless to say that we fell absolutely in love with it.

Our first impression, before we even landed in Helsinki, was that the country had a lot of trees (74% of all Finland is covered in forests) and we immediately felt like we were going to enjoy ourselves. Touching down in the capital and enjoying fresh salmon was another love-on-first-sight moment for us.

We went out to explore Helsinki and its rich history, but we decided not to be the regular tourists and get drawn to every tourist trap; no, we set out to explore the country, without first making an itinerary besides booking a hotel in the capital. Instead, we relied on word of mouth, and the locals suggested exciting and unique experiences.

Since we are both British, we rarely see deep snow, let alone ice, so we immediately loved the idea of going on the Sampo Icebreaker for a cruise, as a really nice lady suggested in a sauna (what’s more Finnish than that?).

We thought we knew what to expect, we’ve been on cruises before, but nothing prepared us for that view. The sun kissing the ice that covers the waters of the Gulf of Bothnia was something out of a fairytale. Later on, we decided to brave the waters ourselves by taking on the offer to don the dry suits and jump in.

This is when we fell in love with Finland and decided to keep visiting it. Our blog also has this name to commemorate the special memory.
